Goldenvoice Concert Series

;
A staple of the concert scene is the gig poster and I was given the opportunity to do a few for a few great bands.
Goldenvoice needed a number of posters created for their summer concert series to help promote some of the acts that were coming to Los Angeles. They requested screen prints and would need somewhere between 50-75 posters per show.

I wanted to create posters that were visually engaging but also practical to produce. All of the posters vary between 2-3 colors to shorten production time. I would first sketch my ideas out in thumbnail drawings. Then bring them into Illustrator to define. And finally send those design off to have screens made.

The Temper Trap

This is my favorite poster of all of them. The Garden of Eden was my inspiration for this poster and I wanted to use the snake as a play on the bands title. I liked the contrast of the colors coral and blue green and I wanted that to serve as the background color while using the negative space to cut out individual leaves.

RX Bandits

This poster is also a play on the bands title. I really liked the word "Bandit" and wanted to make that the visual. I also wanted to use all the show info as a typographic element that added to the illustration. Since the show was going to be held in LA I decided to add the palm trees as an iconic reference that would be reflected in the mirrored sunglasses.

Icona Pop

The concept for this poster was the preparation of getting ready for a big night. I liked the vintagey idea of hair curlers and wanted to turn them into design elements. This worked best if I position the head shot as a profile. I also wanted a big bold decorative font to help add to the avant garde style I was going for.

Toro y Moi

2 COLOR PRINT
This was the first concert poster I did for Goldenvoice. I was fan of Toro y Moi and knew his music well. His music is created completely digitally so I wanted to take go with a more modern approach. I decided to implement a more minimalist look, highlighting his iconic glasses. The poster is a two color print diplaying a record in the background referencing his DJ stylistics.

The War on Drugs

3 COLOR PRINT
For this poster, I drew my inspiration from 1960s fashion as well as the colors from 1980s-90s dancehall music. My aim was to create a pastiche of styles, taking vintage things like the beehive hair do and mixing them with more modern aesthetics. The concept was also meant to be a play on the "reefer madness" art that was popular during the 1930s through the 1950s.

Kate Nash

For this poster, I decided to do a straight up portrait of the artist. She was sporting stark highlights in her hair at the time so I used the paper color as a way to bring them into the design. The choice of font, colors, and starry background almost gives the poster a Texas feel.
